Vertical Conical Blender

INTRODUCTION

This Vertical Conical Screw Mixer is revolutionary mixer which has practically turned around all mixing problems of Powers mixing with variable bulk density & characteristics. The design concept is based on a quality-first philosophy. This mixer has highest demand in powder industries.

WORKING PRINCIPLE

The working principle of the conical Vertical Blender mixer is three-dimensional, originated from rotating elements in combination with a conical vessel. Mixing screw conveys the product from bottom of the vessel to the product surface. The orbital arm orbits the mixing screw along the inner vessel wall causing convective mixing of particles and shear. The speed of particles in the downward mass flow when re-circulated by gravity in a conical vessel increases as the vessel diameter decreases. The result of these simultaneous actions is a fast and intensive mixing with low consumption of power together with high standards of mixing accuracy. Dry materials are charged through the top and ingredients may be added as desired without interrupting mixing cycle.  Arrangements are available for injecting liquid or paste additives in to the mix through the top or bottom of the Vessel.  The screw’s spiral action is upward, lifting ingredients from the bottom of the Vessel up through those at the top.  Discharge is at the bottom and is fast and easy. Even high heat – sensitive materials are safe with the conical unit’s gentle mixing action.  It mixes equally as well at reduced batch sizes or at full capacity, allowing wise flexibility.

CONSTRUCTION FEATURES

COVER ARRANGEMENTS
Several standard cover arrangements are available for Vertical Blender or special covers may be provided to suit the application requirements.  On smaller models, hinged half covers are recommended.  Where ingredients are fed in to the mixer from overhead storage, or by pneumatic conveying, a 10’ flanged opening is provided.  For vacuum applications, a vacuum-tight closure is provided along with flanged minor ingredient opening, light and observation ports.  Larger vacuum units employ a domed cover.

DISCHARGE VALVES
Four types of discharge valves are available for the larger Vertical Blender and the comb mixers.  For dry powders and pastes, the inexpensive sliding gate valve is offered.  For liquids, the rotating plug valve is recommended.  If a dead spot between the mixer cone and valve gate cannot be tolerated, the sliding plug valve is recommended.  Valves are available in different materials of construction and may be manually or pneumatically operated.

JACKET
Dimple jacketed construction is available.  For positive directional flow of the heating or cooling medium, baffled construction is utilized.  Dimpled jackets are constructed in 125 PSI in stainless steel or C.S. Construction.

TAPERED SCREW DESIGN
A new tapered screw is now available for the Vertical Blender.  This design, which offers a larger screw surface, mixes up to 25% faster since there is more screw area in contact with the material.  Additionally, it reduces the possibility of a “dead spot” when mixing very heavy products.  The screw near the tope of the cone is one-third the diameter of the cone, with varied pitch and normal angle of 17 degrees.  The tapered screw requires more horsepower and a larger gearbox than the conventional design because it handles a heavier load.

LUMP BREAKER OR CHOPPER
Self-powered, and mounted at the bottom of the mixer, the lump breaker draws material from the Vessel across the head of its impeller and forces it back in to the mixing area of the screw.  The lump breaker effectively helps maintain proper/material size in mixes that tend to form lumps during processing and in effecting shear where required.  Lump breakers are available in single 1400 RPM or two speed 1440/ 2880 RPM. Various dispersion blades available for degree of shear required.

UPPER CONE SCRAPER
For paste type products and materials that tend to stick to the walls of the cone, spring loaded scrapers may be provided to sweep the upper cone walls above the product zone.

CLEANING DEVICE
Rotating type-washing nozzles can be provided for quick cleaning of cover, screw flight and inside of mixer.  Each nozzle contains three flat spray orifices, positioned to produce the self-rotating force that provide complete spherical spray coverage.  Stainless construction for maximum corrosion resistance.
